Our Story

Two Row Innovations is a newly established Indigenous owned and operated consulting service that aims to support Indigenous communities towards self-determination over health and wellness. The teachings of the Two Row Wampum and the contemporary Two-eyed seeing approach helps guide our work and is reflective of our philosophy and values.

Two Row Wampum

The Two Row Wampum belt was created in 1613 to signify an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and the Dutch. The agreement represents a peace treaty between both nations that includes that both live together in harmony, while respecting each others culture and ways of living, and to not interfere in each other’s affairs. This is signified in the wampum by the two rows of purple wampum beads. One row represents the Haudenosaunee canoe, and the other represents the Dutch Ship. Both travel the same path but never cross. The white wampum beads signify the path of life travelled, which includes peace, friendship, and forever. This teaching can be represented in BC First Nations as they engage in dynamic relationships and continue to take stock of their own health and wellness journey.

Two - Eyed Seeing

Elder Albert Marshall describes Two-Eyed Seeing as being able to see with one eye - the strengths of Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing, and from the other - strengths of Western knowledge and ways of knowing. As the foundation of our philosophy, being able to take these two ways of knowing and combine them to our work allows us to deliver quality services and facilitate meaningful relationships.
